Before going to the how does motivation work in your life, what are the impacts of the motivation in our day to day life, and how it helps us to achieve our goals, first we need to understand what motivation is?
We will talk about every aspect of motivation in this blog.
What is Motivation?
Winston Churchill said, “The Pessimist Sees Difficulty In Every Opportunity. The Optimist Sees Opportunity In Every Difficulty.”
If you guys are also from those people who see opportunity in every difficulty and works on that opportunity, then you guys are motivated. Now, you may be wondering why I said this?
Let us discuss through definition:
Motivation is basically an extension of the word motive that means wants, desires, or needs within a person. And, to work for those desires wholeheartedly and with full dedication is called motivation.
So, from this, we understand if we are working on something with full dedication, then we are already motivated.
Motivation has many definitions and some of the best definition over the internet by some eminent personalities are given below:
Berelson and Steiner:
“A motive is an inner state that energizes, activates, or moves and directs or channels behavior goals.”
“It is the stimulation of any emotion or desire operating upon one’s will and promoting or driving it to action.”
The Encyclopedia of Management:
“Motivation refers to degree of readiness of an organism to pursue some designated goal and implies the determination of the nature and locus of the forces, including the degree of readiness.”
“Motivation is the complex of forces starting and keeping a person at work in an organization.”
Nature of Motivation:
“Motivation is a psychological phenomena which generates within an individual. A person feels the lack of certain needs, to satisfy which he feels working more. The need satisfying ego motivates a person to do better than he normally does.”
“Motivation represents an unsatisfied need which creates a state of tension or disequilibrium, causing the individual to make in a goal-directed pattern towards restoring a state of equilibrium by satisfying the need.”
From all the above definitions, we can conclude that motivation is a feeling or emotion to achieve a particular desire so well that it drives us into a particular direction of achieving it.
How Does Motivation Work In Your Life?
Motivation is a driving force that makes you work for your dreams with full dedication and helps you to achieve them.
A famous saying is there “Push yourself, because no one else is going to do it for you.”
Coming to the point, how does motivation work in your life, I will explain this with an example from my life when I was struggling for a better future.
“After I completed my graduation in B.Tech (Yes, B.Tech) which I opted because my parents want me to do that (like most of the child do), I was also from that 94% of engineering graduates who were not fit for hiring in 2017.
So, now, I was also among the 65% youth who wants a government job and I had started preparing for exams.
One day, my cousin who was doing his office work from home asked me to help him, I helped him and, after preparing for almost two years, I gave up the idea of government job because for the first time in my life I found a thing which excites me or you can say that I feel motivated towards that work and that is Digital marketing and now, I am a successful digital marketer.
And now also, I always remain curious to learn more about this as I am motivated towards it.
And, the only reason to left the preparation of government jobs was that too after coming so close to getting a job is just because I lack motivation in me.”
The reason for telling you guys about this long boring story is that how motivation plays an effective role in our life.
Johnny Depp said “If you love two people at the same time, choose the second one because if you really loved the first, you wouldn’t have fallen for the second.”
Motivation helps you in identifying your true potential for a work that excites you. So, doing a work without any interest or because other wants you to do that, believe me, it will never gonna help you in living a happy life for even one day.
Some of the examples of motivation are:
doing a task before any other task, prioritizing work over another, giving importance to something before anything else, etc.
Types Of Motivation
Basically, there are two types of motivation:
- Intrinsic motivation
- Extrinsic Motivation
Let’s dig into intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.
Intrinsic Motivation: When you work for your passion, not for any rewards from others. In simple words, you do it because you want to satisfy your internal desires.
For example, I ride a bike regularly because it connects me to my soul and keeps me internally happy. So it is intrinsic motivation because I am not riding for any rewards. It can also be called as Self-motivation.
Extrinsic Motivation: Let us take an example: Suppose a person who does not like studying and happy with his marks that he is getting. But, one day his dad says that if you will get say 80% marks, I will buy you a sports bike and, he starts working hard to get marks.
But, in this case, he is not studying for marks but for that sports bike or we can say some external desire. So, this is what extrinsic motivation is. In this, you work for a reward.
Left The Work You Enjoy?
It is obvious that when we start doing something, even if we enjoy that work still we need to face a lot of problems and tackle them. But, you left that thing just because of some problems, then, believe me, you don’t enjoy doing that work and you need to find some other task now.
There is a saying: “You Learn More From Failure Than From Success. Don’t Let It Stop You. Failure Builds Character.”
Finding a task that you really enjoy while working is not a piece of cake. It took me almost two years to find thing that I enjoy and have interest in it.
Enjoying a thing and liking a thing are both different things. You can like a thing by its outer appearance or any other feature but that’s not sure that you will enjoy that thing for a long time or you will remain happy whole life as you are now.
For example, if you like a bike because its outer appearance is sexy but that bike is not comfortable and does not have much power, then for sure you will not enjoy that riding for a long period of time.
So, keep trying and find your interests.
Impacts Of Motivation In Your Day To Day Life?
Motivation has a huge impact in our day to day life as it helps you to keep moving in a particular direction and to achieve your goals. It helps you in identifying the tasks that need to be done and also the time when to be done. You will know what will happen when you do a specific thing. So, it makes your way to your goals easy.
All of us do some specific things in our day to day life like some of us are studying, some of us are doing job in private firm, some remains free, etc. but to do these things daily we need some appreciation, appraisal, or some positive outcomes because these things indirectly becomes motivation for us to do these things with our full potential.
Imagine a job where you are working for a low pay and working without any appreciation or appraisal.
At such place, you will start feeling stress, and still you are working there then in no time, it will start effecting your daily routine and one day you will be quitting the job.
So, all we need to work effectively in our day to day life is pure motivation. Some ways to stay motivated in your day to day life.
We had gone through how motivation works, how it affects our lives, and its impact on our day to day life. Now, let us discuss how to stay motivated and increase productivity in your life.
Have you ever seen a successful person with an easy past? Well, until now, I have never seen such a person.
Warren Buffet, Jeff Bezos, Mukesh Ambani, Ratan Tata – All of us know these people. If not, then you must.
All of the above-mentioned people have some things common like their struggle, dedication, focused, and of course, now a billionaire.
Coming back to point, I just want to say that we all have to go through tough times, deal with day to day life problems but, the one thing you need to do is continuous work on yourself while tackling your problems.
Up and downs are normal in our life because without them there is no life, you can compare it with the fact that what happens when the heartbeat line becomes straight?
Now, I am telling you some point to remain motivated that I am using from the last two to three years and, believe me, I am doing pretty well.
- Be Positive: I am not talking about any blood group, yeah it’s a bad joke. But, my friends the first thing you need to work on is to see the positive part of everything. Rather than thinking about what will happen if I fail, think about what will I get if I succeed. Really, it works.
Elbert Hubbard said: ” Positive anything is better than negative nothing.”
- Set Sub-Goals: Goals are something that keeps you motivated directly or indirectly to achieve them. To achieve some bigger goal, you should break it into small goals and start working on them. It is easy to do things in parts rather than one long jump.
A beautiful saying is there: “Little things make big days.”
- Check On Progress: Setting goals is easy but, how would you know that you are on the right track? For that, you need to keep a check on your progress from time to time and if there is some problem, figure out some solution to tackle the problem. After seeing how far you have come, it will motivate you to go for more and achieve your aim.
- Deadlines: While setting sub-goals, keep in mind to set deadlines for them. It will help you to stay focused and do more in a particular frame of time.
“I don’t need time. What I need is a deadline.”– Duke Ellington
- Self-Motivation: The prime thing in this list of to be motivated is Self-Motivation. Self-motivation helps you keep going in your life, achieve tasks, accept opportunities, and tackle every problem in your life.
Amit Ray said- “There is a God part in you. The consciousness. The pure Self. Learn to listen the voice of that Power.”
- Take Breaks: When we are on a long trip on our vehicles, we do take some short breaks for refreshment and relaxation. In the same way, we need breaks for refreshing our minds. Just keep in mind not to indulge in any activity that can distract you.
- Mates and friend-circle: Your mates and friend circle plays a huge role in your life. Some of them will only tell you things that give you happiness in the short-term, but some of them will motivate you and also tell you about the part on which you need to work and they help you grow.
It is not the end of the list to be motivated. This list never ends, I can tell you many more but, figure out things that work for you because different people get motivation from different things. Try finding out that motivation for you.
Motivation helps you to achieve your goals. Failures are a part of this journey, all you have to do is to learn from these failures and work more on you and go ahead.
Chances are there that you will face a situation when your mind feels completely burned out and that is normal, just take a break and refresh your mind and then again chase your goals.
Always be in a positive environment and if you feel demotivated, just think why you started. Self motivate yourself from time to time and keep going and believe me, you will succeed.
Have patience and remain focused. Nobody can stop you to achieve your goals. You will shine like a star. Have faith in yourself and your hard work.
Hard work always pays off.
Motivation is a driving force that makes you work for your dreams with full dedication and helps you to achieve them.
Intrinsic: When you work for your passion, not for any rewards from others. In simple words, you do it because you want to satisfy your internal desires.
Extrinsic: In this, we are motivated by external desires.
